The fifth issue of Shooting Gameside, published by Micro Magazine in June 2012. The issue opens with a feature on the Thunder Force series, Technosoft's horizontal shooters best known from the Mega Drive, and pairs it with a major feature on the iOS release Darius Burst Second Prologue, including interviews with its developers and with Taito's sound team ZUNTATA. Between them the two features cover both poles of the moment: a revered 16-bit lineage and the genre's then-new life on smartphones.

The supporting coverage takes in Sine Mora, Under Defeat HD and Valhellio, a look at overseas shooting games on Steam, and a classic-game feature on Wild Guns and Over Horizon. A recurring oddity of the series appears here too: Llamasoft's Animal Universe, on the games of Jeff Minter. The music pages carry a report on a Yuriko Keino talk event, an interview with Famicom-era composer Takeaki Kunimoto, and a round-table in which Koichi Namiki, Kimitaka Matsumae and Motoaki Furukawa discuss the inside story of the game music band boom. Doujin coverage includes Magatsuhi and STELLAVANITY. The later e-book edition omits the Thunder Force lead feature; the full contents exist only in the 159-page print run, which is part of why the print volumes are sought after.
