The second issue of Shooting Gameside, published by Micro Magazine in 2011 after a gap of some eight months; from this point the series settled into a steady rhythm. The lead feature, The Course of Gradius, surveys Konami's flagship series and its branches, from Gradius and Salamander through the Parodius comedy line to Otomedius, making this the issue to reach for on Konami's side of the genre.

Two further features widen the frame: a history of shooting game music built around Taito's in-house band ZUNTATA, with the members interviewed about their work in the genre, and a retrospective on SNK's shooting games. Short features cover the then-current crop, including Trouble Witches Neo, Darius Burst Another Chronicle, Eschatos, Strania: The Stella Machina, Mamorukun Curse! and Cave's Akai Katana Shin, and the doujin pages take in Crimzon Clover and Hayabusa. The mix of one canonical series history, one music feature and a spread of new releases became the series template.
