ABOUT

The eighth issue of Shooting Gameside, published by Micro Magazine in 2013, 143 pages. The lead feature catalogues every shooting game released by Jaleco, with developer interviews, and a companion feature does the same for Meldac, two publishers rarely given serious historical treatment anywhere. The issue also concludes the two-part history begun in Vol. 7 with The Legend of Namco's Sound Hardware, on the audio technology behind the company's arcade boards. A Wild Guns developer interview from this issue was later translated into English by shmuplations.com.

The back half shows how far the magazine's brief stretched: a close look at model-maker RC Berg and how its shooting game resin kits are produced, a report on the people who rescued the DECO Cassette System from oblivion, coverage of the French event Stunfest and the three Japanese players who competed there, a report from the Maho-ibe event in Shin-Shimonoseki, a comic titled Darius R-san, and an interview with composer Yusuke Takahama. The doujin pages profile Akashicverse and its circle Endless Shirafu, and regular columns include the Shooting Game Art Museum and Toaplan veteran Tatsuya Uemura's column Do As You Like.
