The Evolution of Arcade Games: Shooting Games
アーケードゲーム進化論 シューティング編
Covers 200+ arcade shmups; supervised by Maeda Hiroyuki.
ABOUT
A single-volume history of arcade shooting games supervised by Hiroyuki Maeda, published by Oakla Publishing in March 2016 as part of its Oak Mook line, 127 pages. It selects more than 200 arcade shooters and presents them in full colour, organised by design lineage rather than chronology, which makes it effectively a taxonomy of the genre in six chapters.
The chapters run: single-screen shooters, from Space Invaders and Galaxian to Cosmo Gang the Video; scrolling shooters, from Scramble and Xevious to Star Force, TwinBee and Gradius; 3D shooters, including Space Harrier, After Burner II, Galaxy Force II and Night Striker; light-gun games, from Operation Wolf to Time Crisis and The House of the Dead; and FPS and TPS cabinets, from Battlezone to Virtual-On and Border Break. An appendix looks at the long pursuit of faithful PC and console conversions and reproduces a collection of arcade flyers. Its breadth, taking in gun games and cockpit 3D alongside the scrolling canon, distinguishes it from the strictly shmup-focused books in this collection.

WHERE TO GET IT
Searched by ISBN, so a shop that has this exact edition will show it and one that does not will come back empty. Most of these were printed in Japan and never distributed elsewhere.
