Quarth
Quarth, also released as Block Hole, is a 1989 Konami arcade game that hybridises a falling-block puzzle with a fixed-screen shooter. The player's ship is confined to the bottom of a single screen while block formations descend from the top, and instead of stacking them the player fires individual blocks upward to complete each formation into a rectangle, at which point it disappears. Larger rectangles score more and briefly pause play while they clear, so deliberately building big shapes buys time to deal with the rest of the screen. The MSX2 conversion is distinguished by a choice of four ships and by SCC sound chip audio carrying both the Quarth and the Block Hole music.
