Space Intruders

A fixed-screen Space Invaders variant published by Quicksilva for the 16K ZX Spectrum and written by John Hollis, listed by ZXDB as directly inspired by Taito's coin-op. The cassette fiction casts the player as the pilot of a Calurian Cannon Ship manoeuvring left and right beneath the Forts of Falnon, orbital stations that take the place of the usual defensive bases, firing upward while a formation of aliens lowers itself and drops bolts of energy onto the Forts. A command saucer crosses above the fleet, one intruder craft mutates through unstable forms, and the formation accelerates as it descends. The game was later reissued on several compilations, including Sinclair Research's own Games Compendium.
