Marine Boy

Marine Boy is a vertically scrolling swimming game. You play as the hero who, armed only with a spear-gun, is trying to reach the mermaid living in a giant clam at the bottom of the sea before his oxygen runs out. Along the way are various pelagic denizens, who will hinder your progress. Among the aquatic menagerie are various types of fish, eels, orca, and turtles, which will cause you to lose a life on contact. There are also randomly floating jellyfish which temporarily paralyze you, as do the patches of seaweed that will cover your faceplate. An octopus will grab you, and drag you back towards the surface. These can usually be dispatched with the spear-gun. There are also hazards to be generally avoided, such as crabs and a dropped anchor. And there are also bonuses, with extra points scored for mermaids and dolphins. Each enemy has its own distinct movement pattern. Reaching the mermaid in the clam at the bottom of the ocean will end the level. Bonus points are awarded based on the number of mermaids kissed and oxygen remaining, after which the next level starts which is longer and has more numerous enemy fish.
