ABOUT
Cave's official setting materials collection for Akai Katana Shin, the Xbox 360 edition of its Taisho-styled horizontal shooter, self-published in 2011. The National Diet Library holds it at 103 pages, without an ISBN.
Cave's press release for the sale that introduced it, held at the company's online shop over 26 and 27 August 2011, describes the book as the whole of Akai Katana Shin condensed: finished illustrations and rough setting art plus long interviews with the design and programming staff. It went on sale alongside an official strategy DVD, with a discounted twin pack offered for the pair.
Akai Katana was Cave's last new arcade-derived world of its era, and this book is the only substantial record of its design work.
