Shooting Game Programming
シューティングゲームプログラミング
Shmup programming primer.
ABOUT
The earliest of the shooting game programming manuals by Kenichiro Matsuura and Yuki Tsukasa, published by SoftBank Creative in 2006. It runs 402 pages and ships with a CD-ROM of supporting material.
As a primer it walks through building a 2D shooter from the ground up, the foundation on which the pair's later, more specialised volumes on danmaku patterns and genre algorithms were built.
Its interest to players is indirect but real: the book belongs to the small shelf of Japanese texts that treated the shooting game as a craft worth teaching, at a time when the doujin scene was producing much of the genre's new work.

WHERE TO GET IT
Searched by ISBN, so a shop that has this exact edition will show it and one that does not will come back empty. Most of these were printed in Japan and never distributed elsewhere.
