It is the longest of the 1986 Gradius guides catalogued here, from the publisher's computer magazine wing, and joins the Futabasha and Futami volumes in the crowded first-year market around Konami's port.

Three competing guides for one Famicom shooter in a single year is itself the historical point: Gradius sold books the way it sold cartridges.
